Funchal to Invest €15.5 Million in 71 New Homes at Quinta das Freiras

The city of Funchal has taken a major step forward in addressing its housing needs by approving a €15.5 million investment for the construction of 71 new homes in Quinta das Freiras, Santo António. This initiative, backed by the City Council, aims to provide modern housing solutions to the growing population.

The project received wide-ranging support from local political entities. It was approved with favorable votes from the Social Democratic Party (PSD), the Democratic and Social Centre-People's Party (CDS-PP), the Socialist Party (PS), and independent councillors, while the Juntos pelo Povo (JPP) party abstained. This cross-party endorsement underscores the project's importance to the local community.

In addition to the housing project, Funchal's municipal government is actively addressing other community needs. A total of 387 notifications have been issued to ensure landowners comply with regulations for cleaning their properties, a critical measure during the fire-prone summer months. As of now, approximately 200 landowners have complied.

Moreover, in response to the upcoming football match between Portugal and Croatia, the city has announced extended opening hours for local establishments, allowing residents and visitors to enjoy the event.
