Funchal Launches New Urban Waste Collection Campaign
Madeira GuideThe Funchal Municipal Council has initiated a new campaign to collect 'urban monsters' this July, promoting environmental responsibility across the city.
The Funchal Municipal Council has launched its annual campaign for the collection of 'urban monsters' throughout July. This initiative, which began last Saturday, is spearheaded by the Department of Environment and involves collaboration with the ten Parish Councils of Funchal.
The campaign aims to enhance community engagement and awareness about proper waste disposal practices. Residents interested in participating can contact their respective Parish Councils to schedule a collection.
The term 'urban monsters' refers to large unwanted items such as refrigerators, mattresses, and washing machines. These items should be placed outside the residence or as close to the main road as possible to facilitate swift removal by municipal services.
The campaign not only seeks to tidy up Funchal but also to instill a sense of environmental responsibility among its residents. The collection schedule is as follows: July 11th for São Martinho and São Pedro, July 18th for Santo António and São Roque, and July 25th for Santa Maria Maior, São Gonçalo, and Sé.
By participating in this campaign, residents contribute to making Funchal a cleaner, more sustainable city, aligning with the municipality's long-term environmental goals.
