Funchal Assembly Approves 2025 Accounts Amidst Debate and Celebrates April 25th

In a significant session held at the Civic Center of São Martinho, the Funchal Municipal Assembly approved the 2025 financial accounts. This decision, however, was not without its controversies. While the 'Funchal Sempre Melhor' party secured 26 votes in favor, the opposition, including PS and Chega, expressed concerns over financial management and social response.

The accounts were approved with 26 votes from 'Funchal Sempre Melhor', 13 abstentions, and 4 votes against. Despite a report indicating financial solidity, opposition members like Nelson Ferreira from Chega pointed out ongoing issues in municipal financial management.

In addition to the accounts, the Assembly also approved the Supplemental Budget for 2026, marking a forward-looking stride in municipal planning. Moreover, reports on municipal companies, Frente MarFunchal and SocioHabitaFunchal, showcased strong financial health and community support.

Jorge Carvalho, the President of the Municipal Council, announced a substantial investment of six million euros towards the requalification of the 'Rua da Infância'. This project promises to centralize municipal services and provide public housing and parking.

Furthermore, housing remains a priority with ongoing projects in Bairro da Ponte and Quinta das Freiras, aiming to deliver nearly a hundred new homes.

On the same day, the Assembly celebrated the 52nd anniversary of the April 25th Revolution. This historic event, pivotal in establishing democracy in Portugal, holds a special place in Madeira's history, commemorated with unanimous votes of appreciation from PS and JPP.
