Emergency services in Madeira have been kept on their toes as a series of incidents unfolded on June 5, 2026. The day saw a van catching fire in Quinta Grande and a road accident involving two women on the via rápida near Viveiros.

Van Fire in Quinta Grande

At approximately 16:19, a van caught fire near a pharmacy in Quinta Grande. The fire was promptly extinguished by locals using two fire extinguishers before the arrival of the Câmara de Lobos Volunteer Firefighters. Nine firefighters with three vehicles were deployed to the scene to ensure the situation was under control.

House Annex Fire in Machico

Earlier in the day, at 15:23, a fire broke out in the annex of a house in Ribeira Seca, Machico. The Machico Municipal Firefighters, consisting of a team of nine with three vehicles, responded swiftly. Fortunately, the fire had already been extinguished when they arrived, minimizing potential damage.

Road Accident on Via Rápida

In a separate incident, two women in their 30s sustained minor injuries in a road accident involving two cars on the via rápida near Viveiros. The accident occurred at around 13:54, and the injured were transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for further care.
