On May 27, 2026, the island of Madeira experienced a series of emergency situations that required prompt responses from local fire departments. A significant fire broke out in Machico, a picturesque town on the eastern side of the island, known for its lush landscapes and historic significance.
The Municipal Firefighters of Machico were dispatched to combat a fire in the Ribeira Grande area, which erupted in the afternoon. Five firefighters worked diligently with two vehicles, one heavy and one light, to control the blaze and protect the surrounding area from further danger.
Rekindled Fire in Funchal
In addition to the fire in Machico, there was a rekindling of a fire earlier that day in a vacant house on Rua do Pina in Funchal. The Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters quickly responded, sending two personnel with a light vehicle to handle the situation. Fortunately, the fire was managed without further incident.
Traffic Incident in Funchal
On the same day, the Funchal region also witnessed a traffic accident involving a motorcycle and a car on Estrada de São João. The incident left a 53-year-old motorcyclist injured, suffering from a pelvic edema and paleness. The injured party was promptly attended to by the Funchal Sapadores Firefighters and transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for further medical care.
