Gomes described the project as one of the most significant financial mismanagement cases in the Autonomous Region of Madeira's history. His inquiry follows revelations from the Tribunal de Contas, which highlighted severe contractual irregularities, monitoring failures, prolonged construction delays, and a financial overrun that could escalate costs beyond 700 million euros.
The deputy's comments reflect growing public concern over the project's transparency and efficiency. He criticized the regional government, led by Miguel Albuquerque, for its lack of planning and accountability. According to Gomes, the hospital project has become a 'monument to incompetence,' with the government's actions likened to a 'festival of opaqueness.'
Further compounding the issue, the tender for the third phase of construction, estimated at 265 million euros, failed to attract bidders as of May this year. This has raised further questions about the viability and strategic execution of the project.
