Three notable figures of the Madeiran diaspora, Felisberto Camacho, José Luís Silva, and João Luís, have been honored with the inaugural 'Madeira Global' award, set to be presented by the Regional Government President.

In a significant move to honor the Madeiran diaspora, the Regional Government has introduced a new accolade, the 'Madeira Global' award. This recognition aims to celebrate the achievements and contributions of Madeirans living abroad, who have made substantial impacts in their respective communities.

The first recipients of this prestigious award include Felisberto Camacho, a prominent businessman based in Venezuela; José Luís Silva, a revered figure within the Portuguese community in South Africa, who will be honored posthumously; and João Luís, another influential businessman.

The awards will be officially presented by the President of the Regional Government of Madeira in a ceremony scheduled for next Thursday. This event underscores the island's commitment to maintaining strong ties with its global diaspora and recognizing their valuable contributions.

Felisberto Camacho, known for his entrepreneurial success in Venezuela, has been a pivotal figure in enhancing the social and economic bonds between Madeira and the Venezuelan diaspora community. Similarly, José Luís Silva, remembered fondly by the Portuguese community in South Africa, had been instrumental in fostering cultural ties and community support.

This initiative by the Regional Government not only acknowledges the individual achievements of Madeirans abroad but also strengthens the cultural and economic connections that bind the diaspora to their roots in Madeira.
