A series of emergencies kept Madeira's firefighting teams busy on June 5th, 2026, as they responded to fires and traffic accidents across the island.

On June 5th, 2026, Madeira's emergency services were kept on their toes as they responded to multiple incidents throughout the island. The day was marked by a series of fires and accidents that called for swift action from local firefighting teams.

Van Fire in Quinta Grande

In the afternoon, a van caught fire near a pharmacy in Quinta Grande. The situation was quickly brought under control by nearby residents who used two fire extinguishers to douse the flames before the arrival of the Bombeiros Voluntários de Câmara de Lobos. A total of nine firefighters with three vehicles were dispatched to the scene to ensure the fire was completely extinguished.

House Annex Fire in Ribeira Seca

Earlier in the day, the Bombeiros Municipais de Machico were called to a fire in an annex of a house in Ribeira Seca. By the time the nine firefighters arrived with three vehicles, the fire had already been extinguished. Fortunately, there were no injuries reported in this incident.

Traffic Accident on the Via Rápida

In another separate incident, the Bombeiros Voluntários Madeirenses attended to a traffic accident on the Via Rápida at the entrance to the Viveiros area. The accident involved two vehicles traveling in the direction of Funchal-Caniço, resulting in minor injuries to two women in their 30s. They were transported to Hospital Dr Nélio Mendonça for further medical evaluation.

These events highlight the essential role of Madeira's emergency services in maintaining the safety and well-being of both residents and tourists. The quick response and professionalism demonstrated by the firefighting teams ensured that all incidents were managed effectively and with minimal harm.
