On the night of July 17, 2026, the Bombeiros Voluntários Madeirenses were dispatched to the Mata da Nazaré, a garden located in the Bairro da Nazaré. A local man found himself trapped inside after a routine walk with his dog. Firefighters arrived promptly with a light vehicle and successfully freed the man by opening a locked door.
Fire Near SĂŁo Tiago Beach
Earlier on the same day, firefighters responded to a fire at the São Tiago beach in Funchal. The blaze, which involved rubbish burning on the tetrapods—a type of concrete structure used for coastal defenses—was quickly extinguished by a team of three firefighters using a light vehicle.
