On December 23, 2025, the Madeira Volunteer Firefighters were called to address a series of emergencies across the island, highlighting the dedication and swift response of local emergency services.
Child Burn Incident
Around 16:12, a five-year-old girl suffered a burn on her hand after accidentally touching a heater. The incident occurred at Caminho do Marques, Monte. Due to the shock, the child briefly lost consciousness but quickly recovered. She was promptly attended to by emergency responders and transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for further care.
Missing Person Alert
Earlier that day at 1:20 AM, the firefighters, accompanied by the PSP (Public Security Police), responded to a call at Travessa da Estufa, Funchal. A concerned family member reported a woman missing for several days. Upon forced entry into the residence through a window, no one was found inside.
Vehicle Fire
In yet another incident at 12:40 AM, a vehicle caught fire at the access to the expressway near Luso Brasileira, Funchal. Eight firefighters arrived with two vehicles and successfully extinguished the blaze using a fire extinguisher.
These events underscore the importance of the Madeira Volunteer Firefighters' role in maintaining public safety across the island, responding swiftly and effectively to a range of emergencies.
