Man Trapped in Mata da Nazaré
On the night of July 17, 2026, the Bombeiros Voluntários Madeirenses were called to the Mata da Nazaré, a garden located in the Nazaré neighborhood. A man walking his dog became trapped inside the garden. Firefighters arrived promptly at 23:20 and successfully opened the door, freeing the man without further incident.
Fire Near São Tiago Beach
Earlier on July 17, 2026, firefighters were also dispatched to the pier near São Tiago beach in Funchal. A fire had broken out among the waste materials on the tetrapods lining the beach. Three firefighters, supported by a light vehicle, managed to extinguish the blaze quickly, preventing any significant damage or injuries.
Wall Collapse at Levada do Bom Sucesso
Also on July 17, 2026, the Bombeiros Voluntários Madeirenses responded to another emergency, this time at the Levada do Bom Sucesso, a popular hiking path.
