Duarte Freitas highlights Porto Santo's potential as a hub for investment and employment, citing economic growth and a record population as key indicators.

In a recent address at the closing session of the Expo Porto Santo, Duarte Freitas, the Regional Secretary of Finance, emphasized the strategic importance of Porto Santo as a year-round investment and employment destination. He pointed to the island's economic and demographic growth as evidence of its potential.

Freitas noted that Porto Santo currently has the largest population in its history, with 6,916 residents. This growth is attributed to a positive migratory balance. Furthermore, the island achieved historic economic milestones in 2024, underscoring its capacity to attract new businesses and create jobs.

The secretary stressed that continuous investment in the island's development is crucial to sustaining this growth. By fostering a conducive environment for business creation and employment, Porto Santo can further solidify its position as a thriving economic hub in the Madeira archipelago.

Porto Santo, often overshadowed by the larger island of Madeira, is known for its stunning beaches and tranquil environment. By transforming it into a dynamic business locale, the regional government aims to enhance its appeal to both residents and tourists.

The government plans to implement strategies that not only improve the island's infrastructure but also attract diverse industries. This initiative is part of a broader effort to ensure economic resilience and sustainable development in the region.
