Madeira's firefighters faced a challenging day with multiple emergencies: a young girl was burned at home, an unoccupied house was searched for a missing woman, and a car caught fire on a highway access road.

On December 23, 2025, the Madeira Volunteer Firefighters were called to respond to a series of emergencies across the island, showcasing their dedication and rapid response capabilities.

Child Injured in Monte

In the early afternoon, a five-year-old girl suffered a burn injury on her hand after coming into contact with a heater at her home in Caminho do Marques, Monte. The incident caused the child to momentarily lose consciousness due to stress, but she quickly recovered. Emergency services promptly transported her to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital for further treatment.

Search for Missing Woman in Funchal

Earlier in the day, at around 1:20 AM, firefighters, accompanied by the local police, forcibly entered a residence on Travessa da Estufa in Funchal. This urgent action was in response to a request from a concerned family member worried about a woman who hadn't been seen for several days. Upon entry, the house was found empty, and the search continues.

Car Fire on Highway Access

In another incident at approximately 12:40 AM, firefighters were dispatched to the scene of a car fire on the highway access road near Luso Brasileira in Funchal. A total of eight firefighters with two vehicles managed to extinguish the fire using a fire extinguisher, preventing further damage.

These incidents highlight the varied and sometimes unpredictable nature of the emergencies handled by Madeira's firefighting teams, who remain vigilant and ready to serve the community at all hours.
