The Praia da Doca do Cavacas, a beloved beach area in Madeira also known as Poças do Gomes, will undergo a temporary closure from June 22 to 26. This closure is to facilitate the replacement of the site's characteristic wooden pedestrian bridges.
These bridges, essential for safe access to the beach, have suffered significant wear and tear. One bridge has been closed since May 2025 due to safety concerns, while the other is severely deteriorated from prolonged exposure to adverse weather conditions.
The complexity of finding suitable contractors and the challenging logistics of transporting heavy materials to the site delayed this vital maintenance work. Finally, a viable solution has been found, involving the installation of six iron beams, each weighing approximately 500kg, using a crane from the adjacent high ground.
This construction work may cause temporary disruptions to the pedestrian path connecting Doca do Cavacas to Praia Formosa. Despite the inconvenience during the peak beach season, the upgrade aims to enhance safety and enjoyment for all visitors.
The local authority, Frente MarFunchal, apologizes for the disruption but emphasizes the long-term benefits this renovation will bring to the popular tourist spot.
