This prestigious event, organized by the Câmara Municipal de Câmara de Lobos, aims to spotlight contemporary literary talent while honoring João Augusto d'Ornelas, a pivotal figure in Madeira's cultural landscape.
The competition is open to Portuguese nationals aged 18 and over, focusing on the short story format. Participants are encouraged to weave in themes related to the vineyards and wine of Madeira, reflecting the region's rich cultural and economic tapestry, particularly the Estreito de Câmara de Lobos area.
The jury for this year's edition includes prominent figures such as António Cruz, Nuno Barros, and Carlos Barradas, ensuring a rigorous and independent evaluation process. The winners will receive cash prizes of 2,000 euros for first place, 750 euros for second, and 500 euros for third, alongside the publication of their works.
João Augusto d'Ornelas, born in the Estreito de Câmara de Lobos in 1833, was a notable typographer, journalist, and writer. His contributions have left an indelible mark on Madeira's and Portugal's cultural heritage.
