The political party Chega has raised serious concerns about the transparency and planning surrounding this major urban renewal effort.
The project, which began several months ago, remains unfinished, causing significant disruptions to local residents and businesses. Chega representatives Renata Rocha and Roberto Gonçalves have publicly criticized the municipal executive for the ongoing delays and lack of effective planning.
One of the core issues highlighted by Chega is a proposal for tax relief aimed at compensating property owners affected by the construction. Initially presented as an exemption from Municipal Property Tax (IMI), the proposal also includes an exemption from the Municipal Transfer Tax (IMT), leading to questions about the transparency of the process.
"The transparency cannot be selective," said Renata Rocha, emphasizing the need for clarity about who benefits from these tax exemptions and the criteria used to determine eligibility.
Roberto Gonçalves reiterated previous warnings about the project's inadequate planning, which has resulted in substantial inconvenience for the community, including disrupted commerce and challenging traffic conditions.
