The community of Câmara de Lobos mourns the passing of four beloved residents, each leaving behind cherished memories and strong community ties. Funerals and memorial services have been scheduled.

The town of Câmara de Lobos, a picturesque coastal settlement on Madeira Island, is gripped with grief following the recent passing of four respected community members: João Manuel Nunes Atanázio, Germano Pinto de Oliveira, Teresa Mendes de Azevedo Fernandes, and José Fernando Gonçalves.

João Manuel Nunes Atanázio

The family of João Manuel Nunes Atanázio, a resident of Bairro do Espírito Santo, announced his passing on April 9, 2026. A funeral service is scheduled for April 10, at the cemetery chapel in Câmara de Lobos. A memorial Mass will follow on April 13 at the parish church of São Sebastião.

Germano Pinto de Oliveira

Germano Pinto de Oliveira, who lived on Caminho da Aldeia, was honored by his family and local organizations, including the Banda Recreio Camponês and the Confraria de Santa Cecília. His funeral will be held on April 10, with a memorial on April 15.

Teresa Mendes de Azevedo Fernandes

Teresa Mendes de Azevedo Fernandes, whose family resides in São Martinho, passed away on April 7. Her funeral and cremation took place on April 8. Her family is grateful for the support shown by the community.

José Fernando Gonçalves

José Fernando Gonçalves, brother of the well-known local taxi driver Zeca, passed away on April 7. His funeral was conducted on April 8, with a heartfelt acknowledgment from his family to the medical staff for their compassionate care.

These losses underscore the strong community bonds in Câmara de Lobos, as families and friends come together to honor the lives and contributions of these individuals.
