In a heartwarming initiative, second-grade students from Ponta do Sol have sponsored a bottlenose dolphin at the Lisbon Zoo, fostering wildlife conservation awareness.

In an inspiring move to promote wildlife conservation, a group of second-grade students from EB1/PE/C school in Ponta do Sol, Madeira, have taken on the role of 'Proud Sponsors' by sponsoring a bottlenose dolphin (Tursiops truncatus) at the Lisbon Zoo. This initiative, held on May 15, 2026, is part of the official animal sponsorship program aimed at encouraging the protection of wildlife and the conservation of nature.

The 'Pontassolenses Carinhosos' group, consisting of enthusiastic young learners, were thrilled to participate in this program. This event not only educated the children about the bottlenose dolphins, known for their high social skills and family-oriented living, but also instilled a sense of responsibility towards environmental conservation.

The sponsorship program is a strategic effort by the Lisbon Zoo to engage communities and foster an understanding of the importance of biodiversity. Such initiatives are crucial in educating the younger generation about the significance of preserving our natural world, particularly in regions like Madeira, where the community is deeply connected to the surrounding ocean and its inhabitants.

This collaboration between the school and the zoo exemplifies how educational institutions can play a pivotal role in conservation efforts. By bridging the gap between education and environmental action, these young students are learning to appreciate and protect the world they live in.
