CHEGA will ask the Funchal Municipal Assembly for details of public housing plans in Amparo, including land ownership, acquisition or expropriation values and the timetable for works.

A regional regulatory decree was recently published after Funchal City Council approved a partial suspension of the Municipal Master Plan in Amparo, SĂŁo Martinho.

CHEGA's Municipal Group in Funchal will seek clarification on land covered by preventive measures after the Regional Government decided to freeze nearly 30,000 square metres for future public housing.

Maria do Carmo Gomes, leader of CHEGA's Municipal Group, said the party supports public housing construction but considers that information is lacking about the project planned for the plots.

She said there is still no information on the number of homes, deadlines, budget or implementation model for the operation.

CHEGA will make formal requests for clarification in the Funchal Municipal Assembly. It wants to know the owners of the affected parcels, the estimated value of any acquisitions or expropriations, and the expected timetable for the works.

The party also questions coordination between the Regional Government and Funchal City Council and calls for greater transparency in the use of public funds for housing.

Update — 2026-09-07

Maria do Carmo Gomes said that people's distress must not be used to justify shortcuts.
