Renata Rocha and Roberto Gonçalves, CHEGA representatives for the Municipal Assembly and the Parish Assembly of Ribeira Brava, respectively, have criticized the municipal executive for its handling of the project. They emphasize the repeated delays and the negative impact on the local community, including disruptions to commerce and difficulties in daily life for residents.
A significant point of contention is the proposal of fiscal benefits intended to compensate those affected by the construction. Initially presented as a property tax (IMI) exemption, the proposal also includes a transfer tax (IMT) exemption, which was not fully disclosed to the public. CHEGA argues that this lack of transparency raises questions about who benefits from these exemptions and the criteria behind them.
'The transparency cannot be selective,' stated Renata Rocha, emphasizing the need for clear communication about the fiscal measures.
The issues with the project have been evident from the start, according to CHEGA, who had previously warned about the lack of planning and the potential for negative outcomes. The party urges the municipal government to provide a clear account of the project's planning and future actions to mitigate further disruptions.
