In a recent turn of events, the Chega party representatives in Ribeira Brava have voiced strong criticism against the municipal management of the Rua dos Dragoeiros regeneration project. The project, which commenced several months ago, has been plagued by delays, causing significant disruptions to residents and local businesses.
Renata Rocha and Roberto Gonçalves, elected officials from Chega, expressed their concerns regarding the transparency of fiscal benefits proposed to compensate those affected by the ongoing construction. Initially, the benefits were presented as an exemption from the Municipal Property Tax (IMI). However, it was later revealed that the proposal also included an exemption from the Municipal Transaction Tax (IMT), raising questions about the criteria and beneficiaries of these measures.
The representatives argue that the lack of clarity in these fiscal benefits undermines public trust. "Transparency cannot be selective," stated Renata Rocha, emphasizing the need for clear communication regarding who benefits from these exemptions and why.
Furthermore, the project has faced criticism for inadequate planning and execution, leading to prolonged inconveniences. Roberto Gonçalves highlighted the party's previous warnings regarding potential issues, which have unfortunately materialized, affecting commerce and daily life in the area.
As the project nears its final stages, there remains a call for improved accountability and communication from the municipal authorities to restore confidence among the local population.
