The Chega party has raised concerns about the ongoing neglect of the Bairro da Argentina, a residential area in Madeira, Portugal. According to Francisco Gomes, a deputy from Chega in the Assembly of the Republic, the neighborhood is suffering from extended abandonment by the regional government and the Investimentos Habitacionais da Madeira (IHM).
During a recent visit, Gomes criticized the governing authorities for failing to fulfill electoral promises, leaving residents in conditions he described as insecure and undignified. "This neighborhood is the epitome of a governance that makes promises before elections, seeks votes, and then disappears. Such an attitude is insulting, as people deserve respect and the right to live in safe and dignified conditions," he stated.
The Bairro da Argentina, officially known as Bairro do EspĂrito Santo and Calçada, has been a focal point of criticism due to reports of severe problems affecting the community. Issues include inadequate housing conditions and lack of essential services, which have been repeatedly highlighted by local residents.
Chega's denunciation comes amid growing frustration among residents who feel abandoned by the authorities. The party's intervention aims to draw attention to these issues and push for immediate governmental action to address the dire living conditions.
