Celebrating the Tradition of Nossa Senhora do Monte in Madeira

High above the city of Funchal, nestled between lush greenery and overlooking the vast Atlantic Ocean, stands the Church of Nossa Senhora do Monte. This iconic sanctuary is not only a symbol of religious devotion but also an integral part of Madeira's cultural heritage.

The devotion to Nossa Senhora do Monte dates back to the early days of the island's settlement. According to tradition, a small statue of the Virgin Mary was discovered by a young girl near Terreiro da Luta, sparking a devotion that has endured for centuries.
