The Caniçal Cold Storage and Auction Facility is set to resume normal operations by tomorrow following a swift repair of the cooling system.

The Caniçal Cold Storage and Auction Facility, a crucial hub for Madeira's fishing industry, is expected to return to full functionality by tomorrow morning. This follows the successful repair of the evaporative condenser motor within the facility's cooling system.

The Regional Secretariat of Agriculture and Fisheries (SRAP) announced that the cooling system, which had been out of service due to a motor failure, is currently stabilizing temperatures. The facility plays a vital role in maintaining the quality and safety of fish and seafood products on the island.

The breakdown had prompted swift action from the Regional Directorate of Fisheries, who implemented an alternative system to preserve the incoming fish, ensuring food safety standards were upheld. The repair was completed in less than four days, a testament to the efficiency and responsiveness of the local authorities.

Caniçal, located on the eastern tip of Madeira, is a key location for the island’s fishing activities. The facility there not only supports local fishermen but also contributes significantly to Madeira's economy by facilitating the export of seafood products.

The restoration of the facility is crucial for the local fishing community and the broader economic landscape of the island, ensuring that disruptions to the supply chain are minimized and that the island's reputation for high-quality seafood is maintained.
