'Bem Cuidar' Project Launches 5th Edition to Train Madeira's Home Helpers
Madeira GuideThe 5th edition of 'Bem Cuidar' trains home helpers in Madeira over the next three months, for the first time with certified courses in first aid and in recognizing mistreatment of the elderly. The Regional Government is funding it with over 100,000 euros.
The 'Bem Cuidar' project has started its fifth edition, a three-month training programme for home helpers in Madeira run by Causa Social, the Association for the Promotion of Citizenship.
For the first time the programme includes certified courses in first aid and in preventing and recognizing mistreatment of the elderly, skills the helpers use in daily care work.
At the launch, the Regional Government of Madeira and Causa Social signed a programme contract worth over 100,000 euros.
The training is aimed at staff of Private Institutions of Social Solidarity and the Madeira Social Security Institute. Certification also gives this work formal professional recognition it has lacked.

The 'Bem Cuidar' project, in its fifth edition, will provide certified training to approximately 500 home care assistants across Madeira. These assistants offer daily support to around 4,000 beneficiaries in the region. The training will be conducted in partnership with several regional organizations, including the Portuguese Red Cross and the Santa Casa da Misericórdia da Calheta, which will provide logistical support and venues for the sessions.
