A manor-house museum uphill from the cathedral whose romantic garden - stonework, old trees, a small chapel - is free to walk and open to anyone.

Take this as a garden with a museum attached rather than the other way round. The gardens cost nothing and give small children room to move; the paid rooms inside hold 17th- and 18th-century furniture, art and ceramics, which a young child walks through in ten minutes. Reviewers with children in tow complain about how strict the staff are indoors, about backpacks and about where you may walk.

Worth knowing: With toddlers, skip the ticket and walk the free gardens; the museum itself is easier with older, calmer children. Closed Sunday and Monday, and on public holidays. There is a café on site.

Prices

Gardens free, whether or not you buy a ticket. Museum: adult 26-64 10 €, youth 13-25 5 €, over-65s 5 €, groups of six or more 5 € a head, family - at least one adult and one minor - 18 €. Children, students and teachers go in free.
