Six screens inside the Fórum Madeira mall on Estrada Monumental, and the one place on the island where a children's film reliably runs dubbed into Portuguese.

The label on the session is the thing to read: VP means versão portuguesa, dubbed, and VO means the original language with Portuguese subtitles. Animated films are usually programmed both ways on the same day; live action is almost always VO, which is no use at all to a child who cannot read subtitles fast. Programming is small-market, so titles arrive later than on the mainland and there are fewer of them.

Worth knowing: Sunday and public holidays start at 10:45, the earliest film anywhere on Madeira, and the shopping centre around it opens at 08:00 - so a wet Sunday morning has somewhere to go before the shops do. The information desk lends pushchairs.

Prices

No ticket prices are published from a source worth trusting, so none are given here. Reviewers say it is cheap by European standards, and that Millennium cardholders and NOS phone customers get a discount at the box office.

Getting there

Prices and opening times change without notice, and on this island they change often. Everything here carries the date it was checked in our research notes; if a place has moved or closed, tell us and we will fix it.
