One room of fossils, minerals, insects and preserved Madeiran vertebrates inside the Botanical Garden, covered by the garden ticket.
This is the regional museum inside the garden on Caminho do Meio, and it is a different institution from the Museu de História Natural do Funchal on Rua da Mouraria - same subject, near-identical name, separate hours and prices. Half an hour at most, and some visitors walk past without noticing it. Its real use is as the shady, dry interval in the middle of a walk round the terraces, with the endemic species in the cases standing next to the living plants outside.
Worth knowing: Do not make a trip for the museum. The thing to check is the garden's closing time, which changes with the season, and the way up: the garden is steep, and the Monte cable car or a taxi is easier than walking with small children.

No separate museum ticket is published - entry is through the Botanical Garden, quoted at 7.50 € for an adult with under-6s free. Confirm at the garden gate.
Season
Two timetables: closes 17:30 from October to March and 19:30 from April to September. Closed 25 December.
