Madeira Optics Museum
Funchal
Closed. Shut when we last checked. It is kept here because guides and map apps still list it.

- Just turn up
A private collection of cameras, binoculars and telescopes in an 18th-century townhouse on Rua das Pretas - closed since 2022.
Recorded here only so that nobody plans a morning around it. The museum's own ticket page states it has been shut since 2022 and that ticket sales are disabled, while listing sites and map entries still show it as an attraction in central Funchal. Even when it traded it was a collection for adults who like cameras, and reviewers back then already warned it was often shut when they turned up.
Worth knowing: Do not put it on an itinerary. If it matters, telephone: no reopening date has been published.
Opening hours
The operator publishes no opening hours. Phone before you drive.
Prices
Nothing is on sale. The last published tariff was 5 € for adults, 3 € for 10-17s and free for children of nine and under.
Getting there
Prices and opening times change without notice, and on this island they change often. Everything here carries the date it was checked in our research notes; if a place has moved or closed, tell us and we will fix it.
