Espaço Multiusos do Porto Moniz

Porto Moniz

  • Indoors
  • Ages 5-14
  • Children free
  • Just turn up

The municipality's exhibition hall on the Porto Moniz seafront, whose permanent show explains the UNESCO laurel forest the family has just driven through.

This is the building older guides call the Centro Ciência Viva, and the confusion is worth clearing up: the science network's domain is dead and the centre is not on the national list any more, but the hall itself is open daily, ten to six, run by the Câmara Municipal under the name Espaço Multiusos. The signage on the door may still say Ciência Viva. Reckon on an hour and a half; it is reading and looking rather than buttons to press, so it suits a child of five upwards and loses teenagers.

Worth knowing: Bring cash - payment is at reception in cash or by cheque, and no card is taken. Groups must book at least eight days ahead and are held to the slot: arrive late and the visit gets shortened.
