Adverse weather conditions in Madeira have led to the postponement of two significant events: the Giant Manta Ray Census and the Faial Supermoto Grand Prix.

The scenic island of Madeira, a popular tourist destination, is experiencing a bout of adverse weather conditions this weekend, affecting various scheduled events.

Giant Manta Ray Census Postponed

The Portuguese Society for the Study of Birds (SPEA) has announced the postponement of the Giant Manta Ray Census originally scheduled for this weekend. The event, which engages citizens in scientific data collection, will now take place on March 28th and 29th. Participants are encouraged to register via SPEA Madeira's communication channels. This citizen science initiative involves volunteers traversing designated areas by car, bicycle, or on foot to count manta rays, offering a family-friendly activity that combines scientific engagement with outdoor exploration.

Faial Supermoto Grand Prix Delayed

Similarly, the Faial Supermoto Grand Prix, planned for March 22nd, has been postponed. The decision, made by the Madeira Motorcycling Association in conjunction with event organizers, comes amid forecasts of persistent rain and unstable weather, which pose a significant safety risk to participants, particularly given the diverse experience levels of the athletes. The Association emphasized the importance of prioritizing safety under such unpredictable conditions.

These postponements highlight the impact of Madeira's unpredictable weather on local and tourist activities, underscoring the importance of flexibility in event planning on the island.
