Residents and tourists in Câmara de Lobos should prepare for temporary water supply interruptions on March 30, while authorities monitor a recent landslide.

In the picturesque town of Câmara de Lobos on Madeira Island, residents and visitors are alerted to upcoming changes affecting daily life. On March 30, from 9:30 AM to 12:00 PM, there will be scheduled water supply interruptions in the Estreito de Câmara de Lobos area, specifically in Garachico and Nogueira. This is part of ongoing efforts by Águas e Resíduos da Madeira (ARM) to upgrade water distribution networks and reduce water loss.

These upgrades are crucial for improving the efficiency of water supply systems, which are vital for sustaining the local community and accommodating the influx of tourists who visit the island each year. ARM assures that every effort will be made to minimize inconvenience and requests the understanding of the public during these necessary works.

Concurrently, the Câmara Municipal de Câmara de Lobos is actively monitoring the situation following a landslide at Seara Velha in Curral das Freiras. The landslide, which occurred on March 27, led to debris being deposited in the Ribeira dos Socorridos riverbed. Despite no reports of injuries, authorities are taking precautions to ensure public safety.

The local government, in conjunction with regional agencies, is conducting continuous surveillance of the affected area, focusing particularly on maintaining clear water flow in the river. Residents near the landslide have been advised to temporarily relocate as a precautionary measure.

Celso Bettencourt, the Mayor of Câmara de Lobos, emphasizes the importance of these measures, stating that all necessary precautions are being taken to ensure safety and stability. The situation remains under close observation to prevent any potential hazards.
