Fatal Choking Incident in Camacha
On March 7, 2026, a fatal incident occurred on Caminho da Igreja in Camacha. A 52-year-old man tragically lost his life after choking and subsequently going into cardiac arrest. Despite the quick response from five firefighters from the Sapadores de Santa Cruz, who arrived with two vehicles, resuscitation efforts were unsuccessful.
Motorcycle Accidents Highlight Road Safety Issues
Motorcycle accidents have been a prominent concern recently, with several incidents reported across the island. On March 5, a 37-year-old man was injured in a collision between a motorcycle and a car in the Boa Nova area of Funchal. He sustained pelvic injuries and was swiftly taken to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça.
Another accident occurred on the same day, involving a 27-year-old motorcyclist who lost control on the expressway to Camacha. The individual suffered from lumbar pain and was also transported to the hospital for treatment.
On March 7, a young motorcyclist in his 20s was involved in an accident on Rua da Austrália in Bairro da Nazaré. The rider lost control of the motorcycle and collided with a car, resulting in a leg injury. Emergency services responded promptly, and the injured party was taken to the hospital.
Violent Assault at Praia Formosa
Adding to the island's recent string of unfortunate events, a violent assault took place on March 7 at Praia Formosa. A man in his 40s was left unconscious following the attack and was quickly taken to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça. The local police, PSP, are currently investigating the incident.
