A series of accidents in Funchal, Madeira, has resulted in several injuries. Local emergency services were kept busy with incidents involving a car, a pedestrian, and a mountain biker.

Funchal, the capital of Madeira Island, witnessed a series of unfortunate accidents on April 2nd and 3rd, 2026, causing multiple injuries and highlighting the need for caution among residents and tourists alike.

Car Accident on Calçada da Encarnação

On April 3rd, at around 15:11, a car accident occurred on Calçada da Encarnação. A 38-year-old man was involved in a car accident and complained of leg pain. Fortunately, he managed to exit the vehicle on his own and was subsequently transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for treatment.

Pedestrian Accident on Rua Dr. Brito Câmara

Earlier, on the evening of April 2nd, a 55-year-old man was hit by a vehicle on Rua Dr. Brito Câmara. The incident occurred around 23:00 when the man, allegedly intoxicated, stumbled off the sidewalk into the road. He suffered a scalp injury and was also taken to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça.

Mountain Biker Accident in the Ecological Park

In another separate incident on April 2nd, a 48-year-old mountain biker was injured in the Ecological Park of Funchal. The biker had a suspected leg fracture after falling off his bicycle. Emergency services dispatched five responders and two vehicles to the scene to provide assistance.

These incidents underscore the importance of safety awareness, particularly in a tourist hotspot like Madeira, where both residents and visitors should exercise caution on the roads and trails.

Local authorities are reminding everyone to stay vigilant, adhere to traffic rules, and ensure personal safety to prevent such accidents.
