Traffic Accidents in Funchal
On May 6, 2026, emergency responders were called to two separate traffic accidents in Funchal. The first incident involved a collision between a car and a motorcycle on Rua Dr. Pita, resulting in the injury of a 28-year-old man. The young man sustained abrasions to his knee and elbow and was promptly taken to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça for further treatment.
In another accident on the same day, a young woman, also 28, was injured in a collision between two cars on Estrada da Eira do Serrado. Seated in the back, she struck her head on the front seat and was also transported to Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça.
Landslide Closes Major Road
Earlier in the day, a large landslide occurred between Portela and Porto da Cruz, closing a regional road. The Machico Municipal Firefighters, along with the Regional Directorate of Roads, were dispatched to manage the situation, ensuring no further incidents occurred.

On May 5, a 39-year-old Venezuelan food delivery motorcyclist was involved in a crash near the Chapel of Amparo. The rider suffered a wrist injury and was subsequently treated at Hospital Dr. Nélio Mendonça.
