Rescue at Pico Ruivo
On May 9, 2026, the Volunteer Firefighters of Santana were dispatched to rescue a 28-year-old English tourist on the trail of Pico Ruivo. The woman had suffered a fractured ankle. The rescue operation involved six firefighters and two vehicles, and it took approximately three hours to complete. The injured tourist was later transported to the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital for further treatment.
Incident in Funchal's Avenida Sá Carneiro
Later the same night, at 10:30 PM, the Madeira Volunteer Firefighters were called to Avenida Sá Carneiro in Funchal. A 33-year-old French tourist was found in an agitated state near the promenade. She was attended to by the firefighters and the Public Security Police (PSP), and subsequently taken to the Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital.
Boat Accident at Marina da Quinta do Lorde
On May 8, 2026, the Municipal Firefighters of Machico were mobilized to assist at the Marina da Quinta do Lorde in Caniçal. A tourist boat capsized due to strong waves, injuring a 76-year-old tourist. She experienced bodily pain and was transported to the Machico Health Center's emergency services for medical attention.
