The Maritime Authority in Funchal has updated a strong maritime weather warning, effective until April 8, due to increasing winds and wave heights.

The Maritime Authority in Funchal has issued an updated warning concerning strong maritime weather conditions affecting Madeira. This advisory, which is in effect until 6 PM on April 8, 2026, highlights the potential for hazardous sea conditions along the island's coasts.

According to the latest information, winds are expected to blow from the north to northwest with initial speeds ranging from 31 to 50 km/h. However, as the day progresses, wind speeds are anticipated to increase between 51 and 61 km/h, presenting a significant escalation in maritime conditions.

Visibility is predicted to be generally good to moderate, although it may occasionally decrease during the afternoon. This is an essential consideration for those planning maritime activities or travel around the island.

Wave conditions are also of concern, particularly on the northern coast of Madeira where waves are anticipated to rise from 2 to 3.5 meters to 4 to 5 meters. Meanwhile, on the southern coast, wave heights are expected to temporarily increase from 1 to 2 meters to 2 to 3 meters in the western regions.

Residents and tourists are advised to exercise caution and stay updated on the latest weather conditions, especially if engaging in outdoor or maritime activities. The authorities stress the importance of adhering to safety advisories to prevent any incidents during this period of adverse weather.
