PSD/Machico Hosts 'Politics Without Filters' to Engage Community

The PSD/Machico's Political Commission hosted a significant event on May 23, 2026, named "Politics Without Filters". This initiative aimed at bridging the gap between the electorate and their representatives was held at the parish headquarters in Machico.
Key speakers at the forum included prominent figures such as Miguel Costa, a member of the Assembly of Machico, Eulália Remesso, leader of the social-democratic bench at the Municipal Assembly, LuĂs Ferreira, a city councilor, and Cláudia Gomes, a deputy in the Legislative Assembly of Madeira. Their discussions focused on the roles and challenges faced by elected officials in both local and regional governance.
José António Viveiros, president of the PSD/Machico's Political Commission, emphasized the importance of direct communication with the public, stating that politics should be barrier-free, fostering open dialogue and accountability. He highlighted ongoing issues in Machico, pointing out that despite changes in the city council's leadership, basic problems persist.
The event underscored the PSD's commitment to being a governance party, with Viveiros advocating for strategic ambition beyond the 'household management' approach currently seen. The forum was characterized by discussions on active listening, presence in the community, and defending local interests.
“Machico continues to face basic day-to-day challenges and cannot be managed like a home without strategic ambition for the future of the parish,” said Viveiros.
