PSD Highlights Housing Investment, Criticizes Santa Cruz Municipality's Inaction
Madeira GuideThe Social Democratic Party (PSD) of Madeira has praised the regional government's housing investments while criticizing the Santa Cruz municipality for its lack of action in the housing sector.
The Social Democratic Party (PSD) recently highlighted significant investments made by the Madeira Regional Government in the housing sector, emphasizing efforts to improve social housing availability. During a visit to the Eiras Housing Development in Caniço, PSD representatives underscored the government's commitment to providing affordable homes for residents.
Deputy Brício Araújo noted that over the past two years, the regional government has delivered 507 new homes, with an additional 301 expected to be completed by the end of the year. This effort is part of a broader strategy to address housing shortages and support low-income families on the island.
However, the PSD has voiced criticism towards the Santa Cruz Municipality, governed by the Juntos pelo Povo (JPP) party, for its apparent inactivity in the housing sector. The lack of municipal projects contrasts with the regional government's proactive stance, according to PSD leaders.
The issue of housing is of particular importance in Madeira, a popular tourist destination where high demand for property can make affordable housing scarce. This situation underscores the need for coordinated efforts between regional and municipal authorities to ensure that housing needs are adequately met.
