A series of incidents in Madeira, including traffic accidents and flooding, have kept emergency services busy. Five injured in a multi-car crash, a motorcyclist hurt in a truck collision, and a garage flood highlight recent emergencies.

In a series of incidents that have kept Madeira's emergency services on alert, multiple accidents and a flooding incident have occurred over the past days, impacting both residents and tourists on the island.

Multi-Car Accident on Via Rápida

On May 22, 2026, a severe traffic accident involving four vehicles took place on the Via Rápida, near Ponte João Gomes, in the direction of Caniço to Funchal. Emergency Medical Rapid Intervention (EMIR) and the Madeirense Volunteer Firefighters were quickly dispatched to the scene.

Five individuals were injured in the accident, with one woman in her 40s becoming trapped in her vehicle. She and the other lightly injured individuals were transported to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital for medical care.

Motorcycle and Truck Collision in Câmara de Lobos

Earlier on the same day, another accident was reported at the Parque Empresarial da Zona Oeste in Câmara de Lobos. This incident involved a collision between a motorcycle and a truck, resulting in the motorcyclist, a 29-year-old, sustaining a suspected leg fracture.

Flooding in Funchal's Monte Area

In a separate incident, the Funchal and Madeirense Volunteer Firefighters were called to a flooding emergency in a garage on Rua Abel Marques Caldeira, located in the Monte area. The situation, which occurred early on May 21, was resolved without further complications.

These events underscore the importance of Madeira's emergency response capabilities and the challenges faced by the island's infrastructure during unexpected incidents.
