In the past few days, the island of Madeira has mourned the loss of four beloved community members: José Sotero Gomes Serrão, Ermelinda da Conceição Rodrigues, Maria Henriques de Abreu, and Manuel de Abreu. Each of these individuals was deeply rooted in their local communities, contributing to the rich tapestry of life on the island.

José Sotero Gomes Serrão

José Sotero Gomes Serrão, a long-time resident of Caminho do Ilhéu, Câmara de Lobos, passed away on March 31, 2026. His funeral is scheduled for April 1, 2026, at the cemetery chapel in Câmara de Lobos, with a service starting at 3:00 PM. A Mass to honor his memory will be held on April 5, 2026, at the São Sebastião parish church.

Ermelinda da Conceição Rodrigues

Ermelinda da Conceição Rodrigues, who resided at Caminho do Terço, Câmara de Lobos, also passed away on March 31, 2026. Her funeral is set for April 1, 2026, beginning with a service at the Nossa Senhora do Carmo parish church at noon. A seventh-day Mass was held on March 31, 2026, in Santo Amaro, Funchal, attended by many, including her son, Father Ignácio Figueira Rodrigues.

Maria Henriques de Abreu

Maria Henriques de Abreu, another cherished resident of Câmara de Lobos, left this world on March 31, 2026. Her funeral takes place on the same day, with services at the local cemetery chapel starting at 3:30 PM. A seventh-day Mass will be conducted on April 7, 2026, at the Nossa Senhora do Carmo parish church.

Manuel de Abreu

Manuel de Abreu, a resident of Estrada da Banda d'Além, Ribeira Brava, passed away on March 30, 2026. His funeral is scheduled for March 31, 2026, at the São Bento parish church in Ribeira Brava, with transport provided from Furna for attendees. A Mass to commemorate his life will be held on April 7, 2026.
