Machico Mourns the Loss of Three Cherished Residents

The community of Machico, Madeira, comes together to commemorate the lives of Luís Alves, José Avelino Spínola Alves, and Agostinha Teixeira Ferreira, who recently passed away. These residents, beloved by many, leave behind a legacy of love and kinship.

The small town of Machico on Madeira Island is in mourning as it bids farewell to three of its cherished residents: Luís Alves, José Avelino Spínola Alves, and Agostinha Teixeira Ferreira. Each played a significant role in the lives of their families and the broader community.

Luís Alves

Luís Alves, who resided in Caminho da Misericórdia A, passed away on April 15, 2026. His funeral will take place on Thursday, with services commencing at the Casa Mortuária da Agência Funerária in Machico. The procession will move to the Igreja Matriz de Machico for the funeral mass, followed by the interment at the Cemitério Municipal de Machico.

The family of Luís Alves extends heartfelt thanks to the medical professionals who cared for him, particularly those in the Urology and Pain Medicine departments. A commemorative mass will be held on April 20, at the Capela do Senhor dos Milagres in Machico.

José Avelino Spínola Alves

José Avelino Spínola Alves, also a resident of Machico, passed away on the same day, April 15, 2026. His funeral services will begin at the Casa Mortuária da Agência Funerária and proceed to the Igreja Matriz de Machico. After the church service, his cremation will take place at the Cemitério de Nossa Senhora das Angústias in São Martinho.

José's family has expressed their deep appreciation for the sympathy shown by friends and relatives. A seventh-day mass will occur on April 18 at the Igreja Matriz de Machico.

Agostinha Teixeira Ferreira

The community also mourns the loss of Agostinha Teixeira Ferreira, who died on April 14, 2026. Her funeral will occur on Wednesday, starting at the Casa Mortuária da Agência Funerária and moving to the Igreja Paroquial da Ribeira Seca for the mass. She will be laid to rest at the Cemitério Municipal de Machico.

Agostinha's family has expressed gratitude for the support during this difficult time. A service in her memory will be held on April 19 at Sítio do Pastel, Machico.

Machico, known for its tight-knit community and rich cultural heritage, is deeply affected by these losses. The town's collective spirit and support for one another are evident as they honor the memories of their beloved residents.
