On the night of April 29, 2026, at around 10 PM, the Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters were dispatched to Rua do Ribeirinho de Baixo in Funchal following reports of an assault. The victim, a 43-year-old man of Nepali nationality, sustained injuries to his face and mouth. He was promptly attended to by emergency services and transported to Dr. Nélio Mendonça Hospital for treatment. The motive behind the assault remains unclear at this time.
Discovery of a Deceased Man
Earlier that same day, in the São João area of Funchal, another emergency call led the fire brigade to the discovery of a man in his fifties who was found dead in his residence. Despite swift intervention, there was nothing that could be done to revive him. The Public Security Police (PSP) have been involved to investigate the circumstances surrounding his death.
Electrical Cable Fire
Adding to the series of events was a fire reported in the late hours at the Caminho das Voltas, directly in front of a church. The Madeiran Volunteer Firefighters responded with five personnel and a heavy vehicle to extinguish the blaze involving electrical cables. The quick action of the firefighters prevented any further damage or injuries.
