Funchal Unanimously Approves Extension of Municipal Plan Revision
Madeira GuideThe Funchal City Council has unanimously approved a 24-month extension for revising its Municipal Master Plan, aiming to adapt to new legislation and support local residents with social aid.
In a decisive move, the Funchal City Council has unanimously agreed to extend the revision process of the Municipal Master Plan (PDM) by 24 months. This decision, reached during a recent council meeting, reflects the city's commitment to aligning its urban planning with the new legal framework affecting rural land management across Madeira.
The extension was supported by several council members, including independent councillors Luís Filipe Santos and Jorge Afonso Freitas. Santos emphasized the necessity of conducting a comprehensive cadastral survey to accurately identify affected lands and ensure legal security for property owners. This survey is crucial for reconciling rural land classifications with the rights of landowners, particularly in the highland areas of Funchal.
Jorge Afonso Freitas highlighted the need to adapt urban planning to the 'revolution' brought by the new legislation. This change is part of a broader legal reform recently approved by the Madeira Government's Council to reorganize rural land use, which will now proceed to the regional legislative assembly for further approval.
Additionally, the council meeting resulted in the approval of significant social support measures. These include financial aid for medication, scholarships for higher education, and housing assistance, amounting to a total of 460,000 euros. These initiatives aim to provide substantial relief to local residents, enhancing their quality of life amid ongoing economic challenges.
The decision to extend the PDM revision is seen as a strategic step to ensure that Funchal's urban development is both legally sound and beneficial to its citizens. The thorough cadastral work planned will facilitate informed decision-making and promote transparency throughout the process.
