Yellow Bus Funchal

Funchal

  • Partly covered
  • From 4
  • Children from 9.5 €
  • Just turn up

Open-top hop-on hop-off buses on two or three Funchal routes, out to Câmara de Lobos and the Cabo Girão skywalk, on 24-hour, 48-hour and five-day tickets.

For a family it works less as a tour than as transport with a view: the top deck keeps children occupied on roads that are unpleasant to drive, and a 48-hour ticket covers several runs out to the Lido and back rather than working out the city buses. Buses bunch, so a twenty-minute headway becomes forty, and the commentary is wasted on younger children. Yellow Bus and City Sightseeing both run these routes and their tickets are easy to confuse when buying.

Worth knowing: Sit on the seaward side going west, and take hats - there is no roof and no shade on the upper deck, and Funchal is hot by eleven. Pushchairs have to be folded; only the lower deck is step-accessible.
