The island's second cable car, nine minutes each way across the Ribeira de João Gomes valley between the Botanical Garden and Babosas in Monte.
This is not the famous one. The Funchal cable car runs from the Avenida do Mar up to Monte and is priced separately; this line starts where that one finishes and carries you across the valley to the Botanical Garden, which is what turns Monte and the garden into one outing instead of two taxi rides. It is cheaper than the Funchal line and almost never queued, and reviewers who arrive expecting it to run down to the city are the ones who leave disappointed.
Worth knowing: Buy the cable car and the Botanical Garden entry together - added at the ticket window it costs less than paying at the garden gate. Parking at the Botanical Garden station is free, and booking online takes ten percent off a ticket that stays valid twelve months.

Prices
Under-7s ride free. Ages 7-14 6 € one way and 9 € return; adults from 15 pay 11 € and 16 €. With Botanical Garden entry: child 9 € and 12 €, adult 19 € and 24 €.
