Two-hour cetacean trips from Calheta harbour on a choice of two boats: a slow wooden vessel, the Ribeira Brava, or a rigid inflatable with suspension seats, the Steno.
The boat you pick matters more than any age rule, and this operator is the one that lets you pick. The wooden Ribeira Brava is the calmest cetacean boat on the island and the sensible choice under about eight; the Steno is a RIB whatever its seats, and rough for a small child. Running since 2003, with briefings about what the animals are doing rather than a chase, and Calheta departures reach the south-west feeding grounds fast, so less dead time than a Funchal start.
Worth knowing: Ask for the Ribeira Brava by name. Calheta is fifty minutes west of Funchal, so a morning departure means a very early start - and the artificial sand beach is five minutes from the berth if the trip is called off.
Opening hours
The operator publishes no opening hours. Phone before you drive.
Prices
From 51.83 € on the Ribeira Brava, from 66.63 € on the Steno. No child rate is published and no no-sighting policy either; ask when you book.
Getting there
Prices and opening times change without notice, and on this island they change often. Everything here carries the date it was checked in our research notes; if a place has moved or closed, tell us and we will fix it.
