Three-hour dolphin and whale trips out of Funchal marina on a large sailing schooner, with under-4s free and half price to twelve.
A schooner, not a rigid inflatable: deck space, shade and a toilet, which is what makes three hours survivable with a child. The trade is the usual one - it is slower than the RIB operators, so sightings are less certain, and in high season the rails are crowded. The half-price child band puts a family of four well below what the fast boats charge.
