A full-size 1040-metre outdoor kart circuit on the north coast at Faial, run with the island's karting association, which rents karts by the fifteen minutes.

This is a real racing circuit - it hosts rounds of the Madeira Karting Trophy - which makes it the better track and the worse family outing. Reviewers count ten or eleven laps in a session at around sixty an hour, and talk about the sea and ravine views more than about the driving. It is forty-five minutes from Funchal over the mountains, it shuts while it rains and for a while afterwards, and the north coast is the wet side of the island.

Worth knowing: Ring or message the Facebook page on a doubtful day before setting off - a wasted drive is the most common complaint about this place, and there is nothing else at the Foz da Ribeira do Faial to rescue the afternoon. No minimum age or height is published anywhere, so ask about that in the same message.

Prices

From the track's own undated price sheet: 18 € for fifteen minutes, 16 € for Santana residents and holders of an AKM card, 16 € a head in a group, and 64 € for four fifteen-minute sessions in one day. A group race is 33 €. Nothing is bookable online; you phone, email or use Facebook.
