Seven hectares outside Santana where children row a boat on a lake, ride a replica Monte train, run a maze and a large playground, and meet goats and ostriches between thatched houses.

The island's one place built for small children rather than tolerant of them, and the reviews divide on exactly that line: families with a two- to ten-year-old call it worth the drive, couples and teenagers do not. Three hours is the usual visit. The replica Santana houses here are better made and far quieter than the famous ones by the town hall, so a stop can do both jobs at once.

Worth knowing: Carry fifty-cent coins - the toilets are pay-to-use even after a thirteen-euro ticket, which catches out nearly every reviewer. Closed Mondays.

Getting there

Prices and opening times change without notice, and on this island they change often. Everything here carries the date it was checked in our research notes; if a place has moved or closed, tell us and we will fix it.
